Bedford driving instructors warnings for out of date photo card driving licences

 In Advice, Blog, News

Driving instructors in Bedford are advising drivers to check on the expiry dates of their driving licence following research carried out recently showed that a number of people were not aware that their licence had expired. The confusion has arisen following the change over from the old style paper licences to the newer photo card licence. Paper licences were valid until the holders 70th birthday, where as the new licences must have an updated photo every 10 years. It is believed that more than 2 million motorists may not be aware that their licence has expired.
The possible consequences of having an out of date licence can include fines, penalty points and even a ban from driving. It can also cause your insurance to be invalidated as your entitlement to drive has effectively ended.
Anyone starting driving lessons in Bedford would of course now be on the new style of licence, but it’s worth keeping an eye on that expiry date!
