Learner driver caught doing 140mph in a 30mph zone!!
I’m sorry to say, you did not read the title wrong there! A learner driver has been jailed after leading police in a high speed pursuit for 10 minutes, reaching speeds of up to 140mph in a 30mph zone. Nathan Arnett, 28, who only holds a provisional licence, was driving a BMW 335 sports car, which he did not have permission to drive. Aside from the speeding, he also went through 3 red lights and was driving on the wrong side of the road. The driver was eventually caught when he lost control of the vehicle, crashing in to a railway line.
The pursuit began when the driver was in a residential area in Great Barr, Birmingham, where he saw a police car pull up alongside him and became “scared” as he should not have been driving. He sped away, with police struggling to keep up. The pursuit lasted for 10 minutes before he lost control of the vehicle, going through a fence and rolling 30ft down an embankment on to the railway track.
He was sentenced to 13 months in jail after admitting dangerous driving, as well as driving without a licence or insurance. He was also disqualified from driving for 18 months.
He previously had 18 convictions for driving without a licence or insurance.
Our Bedford driving instructors are actually a bit surprised at the leniency of the sentence, given for his previous driving convictions.
At least we know he won’t be doing any driving lessons in Bedford!
